Text File Generator
This Privacy Policy describes how textfilegenerator.com ("the Service", "We", "Us", "Our") handles information when you use the site. We built this tool to need as little of your data as possible, so most of this policy explains what we don't collect.
Your text stays on your device
The core tool on this site runs entirely in your browser. Text you type into the editor is never uploaded to our servers, never transmitted over the network, and never logged by us. Files are generated locally using your browser's Blob API and downloaded directly to your device.
Local storage (autosave)
To prevent losing your draft on an accidental refresh, your current text and filename are saved to your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device - it is not synced, transmitted, or accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data or using the Clear button in the tool.
Definitions
- Personal Data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Usage Data means data collected automatically, such as an IP address, browser type, or the pages you visit.
- Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website to store information such as your browsing history or preferences.
- Device means any computer, phone, or tablet used to access the Service.
- You means the individual using the Service.
Information we collect
Text you type into the tool
Never collected. It stays in your browser, as explained above.
Usage data
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information for every visit - such as IP address, browser type, device type, the pages requested, and the time of the request. This is standard server log data used only for security and troubleshooting, and is not linked to the text you generate.
Information you send us directly
If you email us (for example, via the Contact page), we will see your email address and whatever you choose to write to us. We use this only to reply to you, and we don't add it to any mailing list.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not set cookies for tracking or advertising, and does not use them to identify you across visits. The only client-side storage used is the browser's local storage described above, which never leaves your device.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic (such as page views), which does not include the content of any text you write in the tool.
Third-party services
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may log standard request data (such as IP address) per Google's own privacy policy.
Data retention
Since we don't collect the text you generate, there's nothing to retain there. Standard server access logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting, typically no more than a few months, and are then deleted or aggregated. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.
Deleting your data
Your draft and filename in local storage can be deleted at any time from within the tool or by clearing your browser's site data - we have no copy to delete on our end. If you've emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, contact us and we'll remove it.
Disclosure of information
We don't sell or share your information with third parties for marketing. We may disclose limited information (such as server logs) if required to do so by law, or if necessary to protect the security of the Service or the rights and safety of our users.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information (for example, by email), contact us and we will remove it.
Links to other websites
Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by us. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content or privacy practices of any third-party sites, so we encourage you to review their privacy policies when you visit them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top.
